Results of Data Analysis Data Analysis Techniques Used When analyzing the data the focus was on identifying key analysis skills, student performance and the amount of instruction given. The survey data was compiled and organized into those three categories for further analysis. The 4 step analysis was graded according to a rubric (see Table 1). The scores were tallied and categorized and placed into four performance groups, 0-2 points demonstrate beginning analysis skills, 3-4 basic, 5-6 proficient and 7-8 mastery level. The analysis shows student performance and mastery of analysis skills. Results of Analysis Teachers were asked which skills were needed for map analysis on a numerical scale 1-5, with 5 being critical for mastery. According to Table 2, educators value map and graph analysis skills. When doing a map or graph analysis it is important for students to have foundation skills to build upon. Students must be able to correctly identify the map type and title, and in order to answer questions they must also know how to identify and read a key. Educators also ranked higher order thinking skills just as critical for analysis skills. Educators believe that being able to independently discus the data with no outside prompts, being able to recognize what factors influence and caused the data and what effects the data will have are all crucial for students to master.
